The Trump administration touts progress in stopping illegal immigration

President Trump promised to reduce illegal immigration and is continuing during his reelection bid.

Fox news reports that law enforcement apprehended or turned away nearly 43,000 migrants at the southern border in November, which is the sixth month of declines—roughly six percent since October, and a drop of over 70 percent since the height of the crisis in May.

The Department of Homeland Security officials claim the “Remain in Mexico” policy has been successful.

"There's a seriousness within the administration to handle the influx that we've had over the years, and we're seeing what the results are at this particular point," said former INS Houston District Director Hipolito Acosta.

He said fast hearings for people who need asylum is also helping.

Seventy percent of reduction since May of this year. We've seen the changes with the administration of the catch and release policy," said Acosta.

He said traditionally, illegal entries decrease towards the end of the year, especially in December. But watch out, he added there's usually always a spike in January and February.
