Your daily vitamin supplements may not be keeping you healthy. Dr. Joe Galati, a liver specialist and author of Eating Yourself Sick, says research points to the ineffectiveness of those pills. “If you have a well balanced diet, and you don’t have any underlying chronic disease, you will be getting all the nutrients you will need.” Dr. Galati also says fish oil isn't necessary to ward against heart disease if you eat well, keep your weight at a reasonable level and don't smoke."
Dr. Galati has found, “The data is overwhelming that vitamin supplements do not prevent or cure disease.”
The vitamin supplement hype is hard to resist, though. “We need to do a better job of marketing cauliflower and broccoli.”
You can hear Dr. Joe Galati Sunday evening with Your Health First on KTRH.
