Older workers are punctual, dedicated to the company and have experience to share. But many Boomers find it difficult to even get that first job interview. Juanita Jimenez-Soto of AARP Houston says who you know is still important in job search. "You need people who know people. It’s all about networking. Knowing that person who might have a lead on that new job for you – or even have an opportunity for you themself!" She says to get a LinkedIn Account and update it regularly, use only your last 10 to 15 years of experience and eliminate all dates from your resume.
Business Coach Jill Hickman tells her clients to not be afraid of a Skype interview and practice skyping with a friend before the interview. Hickman says there are ways to navigate the dreaded, What is your biggest weakness on the job? "In an interview, saying words that may leave a 'negative taste' in the mind of the person who is interviewing you may not be the way you want that conversation to end.” Example: DON'T SAY 'I hate it when people lie!' DO SAY 'I hold honesty very highly and have difficulty with those who don't tell the truth.'
