FRYER FEATURE: TEXAS IN BOOKS

There’s something fulfilling in looking up to a studio TV screen and seeing images of Texas shrines; the San Jacinto Battleground and, of course, the Alamo. Seems that Texas is on the national agenda in newly released books. Brian Kilmeade of Fox has written previous books on George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, and his new one is “Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers”.He is making the book tour in Texas and surrounding states to start, after spending a lot of time practically embedded here with local historian Douglass Brinkley and others.

He’ll be talking with Jimmy Barrett on his KPRC afternoon show. From what I’ve heard so far, Kilmeade is quite taken with Texas spirit. Maybe others will be too, with the advent of another book, this one by Texan Stephen Harrigan. His “big wonderful thing,” the title in small letters, is a book about the bigness and boldness of Texas spirit, attitude and all-abiding pride. Lots of fun reading ahead.
