You Don’t Need a College Degree

The emphasis in a post-WWII world has been on obtaining a college degree.

Business consultant Garrison Wynn says that’s a misplaced focus. “Truck driver, welders are in gigantic demand. Walmart doubled the price for their truck drivers,” he tells KTRH News.

The common belief is that a four-year college degree is the ticket to financial success in the future, but trained skills in high demand professions can yield an even better salary that many professions requiring at least a bachelor’s degree. “There are people driving a truck for $100,000 a year. There are welders making $150, $160, $175,000 a year. They require skill and training but not a college degree,” he adds.

30 million jobs in American pay more than $55,000 a year and don’t require a college degree at a time that 70% of American construction companies say they desperately need a workforce. “They say we’re about 200,000 welders short. And a lot of welders these days are women because the money’s so good,” says Wynn.
