In 2015, Campaign for Houston led the successful political effort which overwhelmingly defeated Houston’s so-called “HERO” ordinance which would have allowed men, who claim to be women, to enter women’s and girls’ bathrooms, showers and locker rooms.
Now, Campaign for Houston is launching a petition to pass a charter amendment which would require Mayor Sylvester Turner, and the city of Houston, to prohibit the Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) at the city of Houston public library and its branches.
“Currently, Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Drag Queen Story Hour is being conducted in city libraries at taxpayers’ expense as it utilizes city facilities, staff and utilities. Worse yet, at least two of the Drag Queen readers have a documented criminal history of sex crimes,” said Campaign for Houston spokesman, Jared Woodfill. “These taxpayer funded Drag Queen Story Hour programs are targeting kids from 2 to 10 years old and Houstonians simply don’t want children exposed to this type of program. It is wrong and out of step with the moral values of our city. That’s why Campaign for Houston is organizing a full-scale campaign to force Mayor Turner to overturn this harmful, unacceptable program.”
PETITION FOR A CITY OF HOUSTON CHARTER AMENDMENT TO REQUIRE CITY OF HOUSTON TO PROHIBIT DRAG QUEEN STORY TIME AT THE HOUSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY AND ITS BRANCHES

We, the undersigned registered voters of the City of Houston, Texas, under Section 9.004 of the Texas Local Government Code, hereby petition for an election to amend the Charter of the City of Houston to add the following as a separate section of our Charter, to read as follows:
The City of Houston shall prohibit the Houston Public Library, the Houston Public Library System and its neighborhood branch libraries from hosting, holding or promoting Drag Queen Story Time, Drag Queen Story Hour, Drag King Story Hour, Drag Prince Story Hour, Drag Princesses Story Hour or any variation thereof where a biological male dresses up in women’s clothing representing himself as a Drag Queen or a biological women dresses up in male clothing representing herself as a Drag King, or any content, programs or people related to adult sexually oriented business or content to read stories to children in Houston Public libraries.
