The 13th annual independent, statewide poll released the first part of their 2016 poll yesterday.
Today, Texas Lyceum officials will release poll findings online regarding the 2020 Democratic presidential primary election, President Trump and Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Patrick’s job approval ratings, Texans’ economic outlook and more.
Daron Shaw Ph.D., a Lyceum Alumnus and Government Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and Joshua Blank Ph.D., research director at the Texas Politics Project, independently conducted the 2019 Texas Lyceum Poll as they have for the past 12 years.
Blank said they wanted to know if Texans thought domestic forces or foreign threats were the greater danger to democracy.
"We talk so much about foreign election interference, and yet people overwhelmingly see domestic forces as the bigger threat. It's not surprising within the context of the other results," said Blank.
Shaw said Democrats found the greatest internal threat to democracy wasn't the media, candidates, voters or politics.
"Democrats gravitate to money and politics and Republicans to the news media," said Shaw.
The Texas Lyceum 2019 Poll, is centered around democracy to coordinate with the state leadership public policy group’s upcoming conference in mid-September.
The poll, which is in the field from, August 16 to 25, surveys 1,200 Texas adults and has an overall margin of error of +/- 2.83 percentage points. The poll enlists the latest in techniques, using live interviewers and contacting respondents both by landline (400 completes) and cell phones (600 completes) with the use of English and Spanish language instrumentation and interviewing, with an additional online supplement (200 completes) to augment the poll with respect to hard to reach populations.
