You're hearing a lot about red flag laws since the tragedies in El Paso and Dayton. And it's not only the left talking about them. Some Republicans are getting behind them too.
The laws would enable law enforcement to take guns away from those who pose an 'imminent danger.' Former Houston area Congressman Ted Poe has some concerns about this.
"What's to prevent the government down the road from wanting to take guns from people for whatever reason. There has to be due process, before a judge. Individuals have the right to protect his or her Constitutional rights," Poe explained.
This kind of law could be the start of a slippery slope when it comes to gun rights, and Poe says it could be an issue in next year's election.
"The Democrats are intent on trying to intimidate Republican legislators into signing this legislation," Poe said.
And analysts say they could give in to that pressure if they fear losing support in the suburbs, where Republicans have had strong support in the past.
