Conroe was found to be the state's biggest boomtown according to study

Conroe is rated the best "Boomtown" in the state with cities less than 500,000 people, but more than 20,000.

Go Banking Rates lead researcher and data analyst Andrew DePietro said Conroe showed impressive growth in all factors of their study.

"Home value increases over the past five to 10 years, personal income per capita increases over the past five to 10 years, and the increase in occupied housing, but especially owner-occupied housing, that means major increase in homeowners over the past five to 10 years," said DePietro.

Montgomery County's Conroe has been found by a survey to have the second-biggest five-year percentage change in owner-occupied housing units at 55.1 percent. In addition, the city experienced the largest five-year percentage change in per capita income - an incredible 41 percent.

"Conroe has appeared in a number of our studies in the same positive light. It just increases in employment, increases in population, increases in occupied housing. I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future it becomes its own metro area," said DePietro.

He said how Texas handled the housing crash, is the reason for so much confidence and migration here.

  • 5-year change in population: 34.3%
  • 10-year change in population: 60.4%
  • 5-year change in owner-occupied housing units: 55.1%
  • 10-year change in owner-occupied housing units: 80%
  • 5-year change in per capita income: 41%
  • 10-year change in per capita income: 52.7%
