Maybe You Don't Hate Your Job…You're Just Burned Out

Burnout is now a thing.

The World Health Organization’s International Clarification of Disease has elevated job burnout from a source of frustration to a syndrome.

In their medical lingo, they have a very specific definition of the three dimensions that characterize the disorder:

1) feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion

2) increased mental distance from one's job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job

3) reduced professional efficacy.

It’s actually deadly, though easy to laugh about. Burnout is an expression of stress that is not being managed, and that increases the odds of a final, premature checkout from life.

The new ICD-11 takes effect in January of 2022.

It’s the first time it will include “burnout.”
