Texas Senator Ted Cruz delivered his first remarks as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and space.
During the opening remarks of the hearing, Cruz talked about how necessary the Space Force that President Trump wants really is.
“From the development and testing of anti-satellite missiles, to the possible deployment of space-based weapons systems, the threats we face—to our burgeoning commercial space sector, our civil space exploration efforts, and to our national defense—are real, and it is long past time for the United States to act. Since the ancient Greeks first put to sea, nations have recognized the necessity of naval forces and maintaining a superior capability to protect waterborne travel and commerce from bad actors. Pirates threatened the open seas and the same is possible in space. In this same way, we too must now recognize the necessity of a Space Force to defend the nation and to protect space commerce and civil space exploration, Cruz explained.
The comments led MSNBC’s Meet the Press to send out a Tweet poking fun at the Senator.
But the Senator came right back with an answer.
