Free Meals for Houston Firefighters

Houston Firefighters are catching a break - courtesy of a local business owner.

Russel Ybarra - who owns Gringo's Mexican Kitchen and Jimmy Changa's is offering free meals to firefighters who are facing layoffs, and their families.  Houston City Council voted nearly two weeks ago to approve layoff notices for 220 firefighters, as part of the ongoing battle over implementation of Proposition-B, the voter approved pay parity measure. Hundreds of other firefighters are also being notified that they're being demoted in a move that is being challenged by the firefighters' union.

The chains made similar offers to families affected by the government shutdown last year and served more than 15-hundred families.

Firefighters are asked to send your name, email address, and phone number to the chain's Community Relations Coordinator Lindi Vineyard (lindi@gringostexmex.com). Ybarra's restaurants in LaPorte - Bullritos LaPorte, The Lunch Box, and Burger Libre - will also honor firefighter requests.
