Ancestry.com has pulled a commercial titled "Inseparable" after the spot drew widespread criticism. It depicts a love story between a female slave and a white man planning to escape to the north where they can be together. Many people took issue with the romantic tone of the commercial and felt that it sugar-coated the ugly reality of the era. Some pointed out that many people have traumatic experiences with Ancestry.com, finding out that their ancestors owned slaves.
