State House, Senate Bills Differ On Funding For Schools

(Austin, TX) -- State House members are expected to vote on a school funding bill on Wednesday.

The bill would cost the state nine-billion-dollars over the next two years, nearly three-billion of which would go toward property tax relief. A Senate school funding bill would involve similar figures, but the Senate wants to spend four-billion-dollars of the money that would go toward school finance on pay raises for teachers and librarians. That would leave only a bit more than two-billion-dollars under the direct control of school officials statewide.
