Breaking News: 767 Plane Crash Near Houston, Texas

A 767 cargo jet has crashed while en route in the waters off of Houston, Texas. The twin engine jet, operated by Atlas Air, was enroute from Miami to Houston when it crashed in Trinity Bay South of the town of Anahuac about 12:45 local time.

Officials say there were three people on board the flight.

At approximately 12:50pm today, a Boeing 767 cargo aircraft, with at least three crew members on board, crashed at the north end of Trinity Bay at Jack’s Pocket near the mouth of the Trinity River. The debris site spans approximately ¼ mile. The FAA did confirm they lost contact with an aircraft, but specific details are still uncertain. The crash site is in an extremely shallow water area. Although the crash has been deemed unsurvivable, there has not been a recovery of crewmembers. Ownership of the aircraft is unconfirmed.

At this time responders are on scene. Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne is leading the investigation. Other agencies that responded include: Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Chambers County OEM, Chambers County Fire Marshal’s Office, DPS, Texas Parks & Wildlife, Baytown Dive Team, Anahuac VFD, Anahuac EMS, Hankamer VFD, and US Coast Guard. The NTSB is en route and will begin an investigation.  Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia, Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Tice, and State Representative Mayes Middleton are on location as well.

More information will be released tomorrow, as the investigation will be on-going and we are still gathering details. A media staging area has been designated at Fort Anahuac Park, in Anahuac, TX.
