Shutdown Could Delay Launch Of New Vehicles

(Detroit, MI)  --  Automakers are saying the partial government shutdown could delay the rollout of new vehicles.  Ford, GM and Fiat Chrysler have all said the launch of new vehicles could be delayed in the U.S. because the government shutdown is stalling certifications required by the Environmental Protection Agency.  

About 95-percent of the EPA staff has been furloughed because of the shutdown.  The EPA verifies emissions data for new models to make sure they comply with clean air laws.  The agency has not commented on the report.
