(Houston, TX) -- Travelers on the Gulf Freeway are about to find it a lot harder to get downtown. As of 9 p.m. Friday, the ramp from northbound I-45 to US-59 and Highway 288 will be closed permanently.
Work crews will tear it down and build a new ramp, scheduled to open in late June.
Commuters can either detour via the 610 Loop, find a street-level route, or just avoid downtown.
Over the weekend, I-45 northbound will close at Cullen at 9 p.m. Friday, and southbound will close at Allen Parkway at 6 a.m. Saturday. Those lanes reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
