Area preparing for rain storm

Emergency management officials are getting ready for rain that could start this afternoon and last all the way through tomorrow morning.

In Harris County, Jeff Lindner with the Flood Control District says the real problems will start if we get more than five inches of rain.

“We are really focusing in on the Northern part of the County and the San Jacinto basin. That area looks like it will likely get some of the maximum rainfall over a very large area,” Lindner explained.

Galveston County Judge Mark Henry is concerned because of flooding issues we saw earlier in the fall.

“The ground has dried a little, but it’s like a sponge. When it gets full, water can only go sideways,” Henry stated.

And Jeff Braun with the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management says this is a forecast you should be paying attention to.

“Prepare for the inevitability of a lot of rain,” Braun said, adding that they are partially activating their Emergency Operations Center.
