Day of mourning today

Today is a national day of mourning, as America grieves the loss of former President George H.W. Bush.

His son, former President George W. Bush give the eulogy for his father at the National Cathedral in Washington. Former Secretary of State James Baker told KTRH's Shara Fryer this will be a hard speech for the younger Bush to make.

“He and I talked when the planning for this funeral was happening, about the difficulty of giving a eulogy for someone you love so much,” Baker explained, adding that he faces the same situation for the service in Houston tomorrow.

Baker says the Bush family is holding up as much as you can expect at this time.

“They’re very thankful for the life he had, and for the accomplishments he had that are very happily being recognized,” Baker said.

Because today is a national day of mourning, there will be no mail service, the stock market is closed, and all federal offices are closed. In Texas, where the Governor also announced a day of mourning, so state agencies and offices will be closed, too.
