(Houston, TX) -- The Crosby Independent School District is laying off close to 35 teachers and other employees as the school board struggles to solve its financial crisis.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously yesterday in favor of the layoffs, which will take effect in the coming weeks.
Officials said they'll also have to lay off some bus drivers, janitors and others as the district works to cut five-and-a-half million dollars from its payroll budget. The Board of Trustees declared an official financial emergency at a meeting earlier this month.
