(Houston, TX) -- The Houston ISD will have a new interim superintendent starting next week. The board voted Thursday to relieve Dr. Grenita Lathan of her duties as of October 15th.
Dr. Abe Saavedra, superintendent of the South San Antonio ISD, will be the HISD interim superintendent for six months, and afterward on a month-to-month basis.
Saavedra was HISD's superintendent from 2005 to 2009. Lathan will stay on as HISD's Chief Academic Officer. She will be able to reapply for the superintendent job.
