A frosty winter on the way for Texas ... or not

The 2018 Farmer's Almanac is predicting "stinging cold" weather in Texas this winter.

Meanwhile, the reval Old Farmer's Almanac is at odds with that prediction. It says we'll have a "warm, dry" winter.

To add to the confusion, the outlook from NOAA shows uncertainty for Houston's winter, indicating an equal chance for normal, above-normal and below-normal temperatures but with wetter weather.

Nonetheless, Farmer's Almanac editor Peter Geiger stands by his publication's prediction, saying, "Our time-tested, long-range formula is pointing toward a very long, cold, and snow-filled winter." He says the annual publication relies on a century-old mathematical and astronomical formula for its long-range outlooks, "reputed for their accuracy."
