Texas school district considers anthem protest guide

A Texas school district is thinking about outing out a ‘protest guide’ when it comes to players who want to make their feelings known when it comes to the national anthem.

The Fort Worth ISD tells KTRH there is no decision on this as of yet, but that it is the district thinking about such a guide. Closer to home, Katy High School football coach Gary Joseph says he's asked his players to show respect for the flag.

“I told them if they couldn’t stand up and respect the flag, respect the people that fought for the flag then they needed to stay in the dressing room,” Joseph explained.

Victory & Praise Christian Academy football coach Pastor Ronnie Mitchem kicked two players off his team for kneeling during the anthem last year and says it's a matter of respect.

“It seems we have lost that part of what we understand on this issue. It’s a further decay of our society,” Mitchem stated.

Joseph says in Katy ISD, how the issue is handled is left up to the schools.

“It’s addressed, but I think it’s more campus based than district based,” Joseph stated.

In fact Katy did not have a policy in place last year when it comes to the national anthem. Neither do the Fort Bend and Spring ISD’s. They did not respond to KTRH’s request to see if that is still the case.

HISD tells KTRH there is no change in their policy from last year. Kids who protest during the anthem will not be punished.
