Houston’s in for a wet weekend thanks to tropical moisture

You’ve been hearing about it all weekend. Tropical moisture is headed towards Texas. And Houston is going to be in for a wet weekend. Eric Berger with Space City Weather tells KTRH that the good news is this is unlikely to be an organized system.

“In all probability this will continue to be a tropical disturbance. Conditions are not favorable for it to organize,” Berger said.

So the first part of your weekend might wind up okay.

“The big threat is heavy rainfall. We are likely to see that later on Saturday but more likely on Sunday and Monday,” Berger stated.

But who will be in for the worst rain this weekend is simply too hard to tell right now, according to Francisco Sanchez of the Harris County Office of Emergency Management.

“Somewhere in Texas, someone is not going to get a drop and someone is going to get a lot of rain,” Sanchez explained, adding the timing of the rains could change as well.

“This is one of those events where there are different forecasts that could change on a weekend where people are doing things and are not informed,” Sanchez said.

So how are our bayous and creeks doing? Can they handle what could be coming?

“I don’t anticipate much flooding in structures right now,” Berger told KTRH News.

When it is all said and done, we could see between two and five inches of rain because of this moisture.
