Scientists Raise New Cellphone Cancer Risks

Researchers have struggled for years over the question on whether cell phones can cause cancer.

Now, a panel of cellular radiation researchers says there's clear evidence that phone radiation causes tumors in the hearts of rats ... Which were similar to tumors in people.

Results from years of animal testing were more significant than first thought -- causing concerns about radiation exposure and tumor risk to cell phone users.

“The panel voted that the results of years of animal testing were more significant than first thought -- causing concerns about radiation exposure and tumor risk to cell phone users,” reports KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.

The world’s experts gathered recently in North Carolina to discuss concerns about cellphones and whether they present a cancer risk.

The full answers remain elusive – but both activists and researchers alike generally agree that people can minimize any risk by holding phones away from the body when in use and not keeping them in your pocket.

The National Cancer Institute explains that phone emit electromagnetic radiation.

Cell phones emit radiofrequency energy -- radio waves, a form of non-ionizing radiation, from their antennas. Tissues nearest to the antenna can absorb this energy.

“Many brain tumor lawsuits going on right now that are waiting for a study like this to prove that people’s brain tumors were caused by their cellphone radiation,” Kevin Mottus, of the California Brain Tumor Association, told the television station.
