Getting Through This Long Hot Summer Without Causing a Nasty Black-Out

ERCOT is asking us to voluntarily reduce our electricity between 4:00 PM and 8:00 pm

This will help reduce the strain on the power grid. Here are some of their suggestions:

  • Bump up your thermostat 2 degrees.
  • Keep your blinds and drapes/curtains closed. Look into "black-out" curtains.
  • Run big indoor appliances like your dishwasher and washer/dryer while you're asleep - or at least in the late evening. Or when/if possible, avoid using them altogether.
  • Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
  • Set pool pumps to run early morning or overnight; shut off during peak hours.
  • Shade air conditioning units or condensers located outdoors, if possible.
