See a Piece of History Towed Away Forever

In some school districts, a long, long time ago, a visit to the Battleship Texas was mandatory for all 7th graders. It was considered to be a Battleship Historical Museum. Now, after 70 years 'parked' at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, it's leaving the area. Forever.

The ship is 110 years old and served in both World War I and World War II. It's antiaircraft gun was installed in 1916 and was said to be the first installation of its kind on a US battleship.

The morning of Wednesday, August 31, 2022, it will be transported to Gulf Copper and Manufacturing Corporations' Galveston Shipyard where it will undergo significant repairs. The transport can be seen live on Youtube and Facebook.

This undertaking will be the joint effort of The Battleship Texas Foundation, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission. Her future location is still unknown.
