Third Fatality in Watson Explosion

Gilbert Mendoza Cruz died Wednesday of injuries sustained January 24 when a propylene leak caused an accidental explosion at Watson Grinding and Manufacturing on Gessner near Clay Road.

Cruz was home asleep at the time of the explosion, in bed with his wife when the ceiling collapsed on them. Their home, according to his attorney, is about a thousand feet from the plant. Cruz was hospitalized for injuries but had been released, and then had to be readmitted when his blood pressure dropped.

Cruz leaves behind a wife, 12 year old son and 6 year old daughter.
