Poll: Many don't know who their clergy supports when it comes to politics

If you believe new research, churchgoers claim not to know the political leanings of their clergy.

According to the Pew Research Center, 45% say they aren't sure if their religious leader is a Republican or a Democrat. Republican strategist Jessica Colon says she finds that hard to believe.

"There are a lot of clergy that get more aggressive and opinionated in where they fall on the political spectrum.

In fact, she says that many congregants want to know what their clergy thinks about a political race or issue before they go and vote, so there is an impact on elections.

"They can have a great impact. A lot of time you hear that congregants want to know what their religious leaders think," Colon explained.
