State Judge Accused Of Wire Fraud

American Courtroom

A Houston area judge is under federal indictment on wire fraud accusations.

Prosecutors say Judge Alexandra Smoots-Thomas used campaign contributions from 2012 and 2016 for personal expenses including mortgage payments, travel, and private school tuition.

She's also accused of lying to the Texas Ethics Commission and her campaign treasurer.

Smoots-Thomas surrendered to the FBI Friday morning.
