Parent Shaming!

W hen your child hasn't performed as you would wish - at a grocery store or in front of guests, the last thing you want is to be criticized by either a total stranger or a family member.it's called parent shaming. People's parenting is being criticized from complete strangers, their own parents and even work colleagues who may or may not have children themselves. Family Therapist Shannon Thornton has an idea of why people are so free with their blame. "Our opinions are so easily shared online now that I just wonder if people don’t have any personal filters anymore --- or any common courtesy.”

And when you feel like butting in...Thornton has this insight: “I think it’s normal to say, ‘what’s wrong with that mom – or why can’t that dad control his kid?’ --- but we don’t know what’s going on in someone else’s life.”

Thornton says if you're attacked...keep your reaction to "thank you for your input" and walk away.
