Houston Community Colleges Among the Best in US

Ten community colleges across Texas are ranked among the best in the country, including four in the Houston area.

San Jacinto College in Pasadena ranked 63rd, followed by Lone Star College in the Woodlands (87), Galveston College (94), and Lee College in Baytown (100). The top-ranked community college in the state is Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, which ranked sixth.

According to the survey site Niche, the rankings were based on an analysis of academic, financial, safety, and student life data compiled by the Department of Education.

More young people are seeing the financial advantage of attending a community college... where costs per credit hour are less than half of those at a four-year public university. According to Student Loan Hero, the cost-per-credit at a two-year school is 135-dollars, compared to nearly 325-dollars at a four-year college.

Community colleges also provide more flexibility for their students, who oftentimes have full-time jobs and families
