Governor Abbot Signs Law Abolishing Red Light Cameras

Governor Greg Abbott took to social media to share live coverage as he signed the bill to abolish red light cameras passed by the Texas House and Senate in May.

On the Twitter post, Abbott said, “Governor Greg Abbott here at the Capital on a Saturday signing bills.I’m about to sign this bill than bans red light cameras in Texas.” And with that, he signed it.

The bill won’t go into effect until September 1.

Municipalities that still have cameras will be able to operate them until the contracts expire.

The cameras have been in the Lone Star State since 2007.
