Wrong Blood Type Leads To Woman's Death

(Houston, TX) -- Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center President Dr. Doug Lawson is promising change after a federal review. Lawson says he is deeply disappointed in the review results which found multiple errors were made by hospital staff last December which caused a patient's death. Investigators say a nurse put two different labels on a blood specimen which the lab failed to reject. The patient was then given the wrong blood and died. Lawson says the federal government will do a full-scale review of the hospital to see if any other changes need to be made. Baylor St. Luke's has brought in new leadership over the past month which Lawson is hopeful will prevent other errors from happening.
