Rare Penny Up For Auction

A rare penny that was found in change from a school cafeteria is now up for auction.  Don Lutes Jr. was just 16-years-old  in 1947 when he found the bronze 1943 penny.  Only a handful of bronze pennies were mistakenly pressed in 1943, when steel was being used instead of copper because of shortages during World War Two.  Being a coin collector,

Lutes had heard about the bronze pennies and noticed that this penny in particular looked much different from the steel 1943 pennies he'd seen in the past.  The penny could end up fetching hundreds of thousands of dollars.  A similar 1943 penny was auctioned for nearly two-million-bucks in 2010.
