POLL: Don't worry about Big Rig Drivers driving stoned

If there's a trend toward businesses mellowing on pot smoking, that's not the case in the trucking industry. Nationwide we're told more businesses are open to the idea of hiring those who smoke weed.

Norita Taylor is with the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association.

"Truck drivers are held to a very high standard when it comes to drug testing and substance abuse testing, so we are not hearing of any talk of moving away from that for any drugs, including marijuana."

Taylor says if there are drivers who want to be allowed to smoke marijuana, she's not aware of it.

"The random tests that they are subject to show that there is less than one percent of drug use among truck drivers; and as far as anyone saying that they would like to be able to, I've never heard of anybody saying that."

Taylor also says there's no shortage of truckers; specific areas of trucking may be low on drivers, but overall there's no shortage.
