Today’s parade kicks off the Rodeo

Today’s parade signifies the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is in town and ready to get the festivities under way.

Leading the parade this year as Grand Marshal is Houston media icon, Dave Ward.

Thousands of people will be out today to watch the parade this morning. The Rodeo Parade's Ryan Kelly says the parade has been a year in the works.

“There’s a little over 100 entries this year, which should involve several hundred people. The Trail Rides alone encompass that. It’s exciting for us to see everyone out there,” said Kelly.

The best places to view the parade are on Louisiana, from Bell to Lamar, and from Louisiana to Smith. Arrive early to secure a viewing spot along the route, which begins at Bagby and Walker streets, travels from Travis to Bell Street, and from Bell Street to Louisiana Street, before turning on Lamar Street, and ends at Lamar and Bagby.

“The parade runs on the west of downtown. Setting up on Travis will be a great place to view it. There’s over 100 entries, all of them will ride by."
