Construction impacted by Trump stance on illegal immigration

Everywhere you look around Houston, you see construction, but the industry says they are starting to feel the impact of President Trump’s hardline stance on illegal immigration.

The construction industry says there is a shortage of workers, and that leads to delays in construction. Luis Vera with the League of United Latin American Citizens tells KTRH big business may be speaking out of both sides of their mouths here.

“Business people who say they want to secure the border, at the same time, need these workers to do their work. It’s a big hypocrisy,” Vera said.

David Ray with the Federation for American Immigration Reform says this wouldn't be happening if we had a system that would ensure workers are actually here legally.

“E-Verify would quickly let you know if a person has been authorized to hold a job legally in the United States,” Ray explained, adding that if these businesses are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem.
