Weigh Anchor: Houston's Summer Boat Show Under Way

The 30th Annual Houston Summer Boat Show is under way at NRG Center.

Recent data from the 2016 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract ranks Texas No. 2 behind only Florida in sales of new powerboats, engines, trailers and accessories. Sales reached $1.4 billion in Texas in 2016, up 5 percent from 2015.

The show features the latest in nearly every type of recreational vessel –– from pontoon and cruiser boats to fishing boats to ski/wakeboarding boats and kayaks.

Exhibits offer fishing gear, water sports accessories, electronics for boating, patio furniture, vacation getaways, clothing and jewelry.

Attractions include demonstrations at the Bass Tub -- a 4,000 gallon, 18-wheeler-sized fish tank filled with live bass. Children can catch a rainbow trout at Fish-O-Rama and meet Royale the Robot Ranger.

Ongoing show hours are 1-8 p.m. Friday. 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $12; they're $5 for children 6-12. Kids 5 and under are free. Only cash is accepted at the ticket windows.

Onsite ticket windows open 30 minutes early and close 30 minutes before show closing.
