Cornyn to FBI?

Texas Senator John Cornyn is said to be on a short list of candidates to take over leadership at the FBI. He's currently the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, behind only Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Texas' senior senator is a former state attorney general and state supreme court justice. He's been in office since 2002 and his current term runs through 2021.

If he takes the job, Governor Abbott would assign a temporary replacement until a special election could be held.

Cornyn is one of 11 potential candidates.
