Louisiana Tornadoes Hurt Dozens, Wreck Buildings

Dozens are injured after a string of tornadoes ripped through southern Louisiana on Tuesday.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says there haven't been reports of any deaths.

One tornado hit the eastern part of New Orleans, another touched down in the town of Killian and yet another in the town of Donaldson.  The twisters caused heavy damage to homes and buildings.

Landrieu says authorities are working to protect people – and that others should stay away while emergency efforts are under way.

Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a statewide emergency and the Louisiana National Guard is moving in to assist.

Landrieu says the people of New Orleans “will come together to overcome this tragedy.”

Twisters in the eastern part of his city and other towns in southern Louisiana caused serious damage to homes and buildings.
