An east Texas man is leading a campaign to make a change in hotel-motel phone systems.  In most cases, you have to dial “9” to get an outside line.  When Henry Hunt's daughter was being stabbed to death last month, his nine year old granddaughter couldn't call for help.

He says 362 thousand people have signed the online petition at change-dot-org...

“A lot of technology companies that I've talked to have said it's really an easy fix,” Hunt says.

Hunt and the petition signers want Congress to pass a law requiring all phone calls to 9-1-1 to go directly to an emergency dispatcher with nothing delaying the message.  It’s a simple request, with no room for compromise.

This is what they want:

“To provide their guests the ability to dial 9-1-1,” Hunt says, “without having to access an outside line.”
