Realistic Expectations Needed in Relationships

A nationwide study shows people who think they are soul mates with their partner may be disappointed in that relationship.  Realistic couples are just happier.  Relationship expert Melanie Ross Mills says people who think they have a perfect unity with someone else could be heading for disappointment.

“People that have a journey mentality seem to have more satisfaction and less conflict,” Mills says.  “I think that tends to lend itself to more realistic expectations.”

It's often a question of maturity.  Younger people tend to believe in the concept of soul mates.

“Pay attention to those red flags,” she says, “which could come across in the future where they might not be mature enough to be in it for the long haul.”
