The Federal Communications Commission is planning on overhauling the Emergency Alert System to allow the President to talk to the nation.

The change is aimed at allowing the President to talk to the entire country with the flip of a switch.  Saving valuable time that is usually taken up by arranging network television coverage.

The EAS is based on older more reliable technology, that transmits signals down to regional stations, both television and radio which then broadcast those alerts on their systems.  The planned change will allow the President to bypass that chain and begin broadcasting on all stations.
