A Violent Man Broke Into the Louisiana Governor's Mansion

Something very bizarre happened in Baton Rouge earlier this month but authorities aren't giving us any details.

Here's what we know: someone broke into the Louisiana governor's mansion on April 17th. The governor's office, however, will not share any of the details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Gov John Bel Edwards gave a brief public statement at a press luncheon yesterday, stating, "What I can say is what I have said — not much."

Edward won't even say if his family was home during the break-in.

According to police, 34-yr-old Reynard Green was found around 6am, asleep on a couch next to a recently broken antique table.

The police affidavit states Green got "extremely violent" when public safety officers arrested him. He hit one of them in the chest and another on the hand.

The violent exchanged caused police to put leg shackles on the suspect before he was booked at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Things only got crazier from there: the suspect tried to grab an officer's gun.

The armed officer said in a written report, "I was able to stop Green from attempting to disarm me with a right elbow strike to the side of his face."

Despite public access to the police report, the Louisiana State Police still aren't offering a statement on the incident. They've given no details on how the man managed to break into the mansion, how long he was inside for, who discovered him sleeping on the couch, and whether or not officers were reprimanded for allowing the break-in to occur.

State police spokesman Capt. J.B. Slaton said, "The circumstances around the incident are still under investigation. (The investigator) is currently evaluating security procedures for potential areas of improvement."

As for the suspect, he was booked on the following charges: simple burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property, two counts of officer battery, disarming a police officer and possession of a Schedule I narcotic (because officers found what they believe to be synthetic marijuana in the suspect's pant pockets).

So many questions remain unanswered. We don't even know if he has a lawyer, but Green remains locked up on a $32,000 bond.
