Houston Public Library allowed a registered sex offender to read to young children during a "Drag-queen Story-time" event.
For months we've heard about parents protesting similar events from coast to coast as critics have asked, "Why do drag-queens need to read books to young children?"
To anyone who thought those protests were unwarranted, we now have the Houston Public Library to thank for proving otherwise.
Sex offender Alberto Garza, who calls himself Tatiana Mala Nina, was convicted in 2008 for sexually assaulting an 8-yr-old boy.
The Houston Public Library said in a statement, "We were made aware today that one participant for Drag Queen storytime who read at the September 29, 2018, Drag Queen Storytime has a criminal background that should have prevented him from participating in the program. We assure you that this participant will not be involved in any future HPL programs."
That's all well and good, but why would this guy allowed to be near young kids in the first place? Don't the public libraries who host these events do background checks on the people involved?
Apparently not.
You'd think storybook time at a local public library would be one of the few places where you wouldn't have to worry about your kids being near a pedophile, but you'd be wrong. Thanks a lot, Houston public library.
Still no word on when the Houston Public Library will be hosting a Bible reading event.
