The fix for Hurricane Harvey is not fast nor cheap….because the point is not just picking up the pieces. Houston Stronger means planning, designing, building, preparing in order to limit the disastrous effects of the next one and the next…and on.
That's why the upcoming August 25th bond election is critical. 2.5 billion dollars in bonds, if passed, will get a 3 to 1 match from Congress, adding up to 10 billion dollars.....about 1/3 of the 35 billion estimated to be needed in recovery and mitigating damage forward. It's an immense undertaking with an almost unprecedented level of cooperation here of local, state and federal officials, along with intense community input.
What I've learned: no one has undertaken a task quite like this, in this way before. It's why we aren't just Houston Strong....but Houston Stronger. Be sure you vote.
