PIES, PIES, PIES!

There were almost 100 of them….PIES! It was the annual Moulton Town & Country Jamboree….a celebration of great participation in that small Lavaca County town.

The pie contest is not about the eating…initially anyway. It’s about the baking. Baking pies is serious among Moultonians or is that Moultonites? See the pies are auctioned after they are judged and the dollars raised provide scholarships for Moulton kids going to college. It’s a win, any way you look at it.

The pie bakers were in five categories: Men’s pies, 2 groups of Women’s Pies, pies made by high schoolers, and pies made by primary school kids.

As a judge….I sample 25 pies of high school kids….and the first place winner of pecan/caramel pie also won the Grand Champion medal. What a high….sugar high that is.
