The washout of Independence Day celebrations was an unusual occurrence for Houston. Not talking about the rain, but the amount. So most of us kept our observations indoors, though in many homes, nervously watching the quickly rising waters.
Flood control assured us on Houston’s Morning News, that the drainage system acted as it was designed to do. Our streets were deliberately built below grade to act as conduits, taking the rain and runoff to the bayous and onward. Ten inches of some rain in some areas, I had six inches at my house inside the Loop.
