It’s a battle over bragging rights. I mean, who knew that Long Island Iced Tea was created in……drumroll here…..Tennessee? Kingsport Tennessee laying claim to creating it before prohibition in the 1920’s….and watching it stolen by the speakeasy crowd of New York.

As for the battle…mixologists will compete in a blindfold taste contest to put the correct label of the “whatever it should be named” iced tea. It’s Kingsport, Tennessee vs. Freeport, New York.

Makes me think of the ongoing dispute over the creation of the “margarita”. The Cadillac Bar in Nuevo Laredo laid claim to that tequila concoction of hand-squeezed lime, liquer and salt. Others have laid the same claim. Might be fun to be able to judge that competition. Texans love bragging rights.
